Away to Camp NL Goes
Well, it's Monday morning and the weekend has been full of so much activity that the quiet of the study is a good thing. Nearly 140 people left for summer camp this morning. The parking lot was full of joyful chaos. People were loading two chartered buses, parents dropping off children, counselors greeting one another and lovingly harassing campers. In the midst of all the chatter one our youth interns came up to me and said, "The fire department just pulled up."
I looked out to the front of our campus and sure enough a fire marshall's car was sitting there. I told Melissa, our intern, to go tell Ike (our children's minister) and I headed toward the car in the hope of holding the fire marshall off long enough for Ike to get parents to move their cars which were sitting in all the wrong places.
So here he came, in full uniform--dragging a suitcase. As I reached him, I began to speak apologies for the maize of cars and people. He said, "I didn't come here for that. I came to drop off my two daughters for camp!"
We both laughed about that and we got his daughters all signed in.
Crisis averted.
