Atheism Unbound

The silly and, at times, ludicrous statements of the new breed of atheists finds a healthy response by Peter Berkowitz in an essay found here.  Sometimes atheists are nothing more than fundamentalists in disquise!

Thanks for saving me from the not-too-great temptation to read Hitchens' book. He is a talented writer, and I was curious to read something from this wave of "atheist manifestos." The essay by Berkowitz is excellent.

I have just finished Krista Tippett's Speaking of Faith, which was very stimulating to my thinking. She also had some wonderful points that I worked into the Listening to Scripture class - about imagination and appreciation of beauty as integral to faith, and about the wonderful implications of trying to see the world as God sees it.

Tippet believes we have great possibilities for dialogue and appreciation across faith traditions, reason, and science. I hope she's right, and believe she's onto something much more profound and valuable than strident pronouncements from atheists or fundamentalists.
